It’s The Little Moments

The Little Moments.

Truly…how do 2 months fly by so fast? It has been 2 months since I arrived back to Puebla, MX after enjoying a wonderful couple of weeks with my friends and family back in the United States. One morning, I was sitting and enjoying a cup of coffee (as usual) with my Mom. We were talking about my vacation back home and reminiscing on what I was able to accomplish and who I was able to see during my time back home. Then she looked at me and asked if I was ready to go back to Mexico. I looked at her and I think she could see how torn I was, but she knew and understood. She looked at me, smiled, nodded and said this trip was all about enjoying the little moments that we were given. But at the end of it all, God has given each of us a calling and we have to go live it.

When she explained the importance of the little moments, I knew I needed to bring that to my life to Esperanza Viva. Once I flew back home to Puebla, MX, I was put into quarantine for a week. I was so excited to see my girls and friends and then in the midst of the silence of quarantine, I heard it. From my window my girls calling my name and then heard “I love you MOSTEST!” If you have read any of my articles in the past, you have an idea of how much my heart was filled in that moment.

Once I moved back into the Medianas dorm, I was determined to find those little moments with each and every girl. Staying intentional within conversations, giggles and the hugs. I have found something special with each girl to enjoy the little moments. Some examples?

  • Gaby & I … well after I say goodnight to each of the girls individually, I return back to my bed and she pops her head off her bed (her bed is above mine) and is ready to do our very own prayer. We take turns between English and Spanish. During this time, we pray for our families, friends, guidance, wisdom, patience and for God to continually walk with us each and every day. It has been one of my favorite bedtime routines with her.

  • Lizeth & I … she is the littlest of the dorm. So naturally she is a little difficult to wake up in the morning. So naturally we have started having our very own coffee dates. She takes her “coffee” with cream and sugar and LOTS of giggles at the table. We are able to enjoy each other’s company while both of us wake up while everyone else is still sleeping.

  • Tere & I … every Monday the supervisors have a small group to help us reset for the week and get us focused on why we are here. I always return late and Tere is still awake. So I say goodnight to her and she always asks what we talked about during small group. It has been a blessing to reflect with her and help each other reset for the week too.

The truth is, these little moments that I have with each girl is something that I am so thankful for. Whenever we have a tough day (because we do), I can remember the little moments and know that those are what helps us. If each girl can go to bed knowing they are SO loved, that their voice MATTERS and they are so incredibly special in this life…then we did our job for the day.

Updates & Prayer Requests

After returning back to Esperanza Viva, my job has transitioned in where I am serving. In the mornings, I am able to connect with two classes a day from the community. We have a virtual learning system due to COVID to still reach the community students. During this time, we practice our English and get to know one another more.

After my two classes, I grab my things and head over to the multimedia office. There I am working in a new department…Donor Relations. This has been a great opportunity to use my degree to help reach more with the stories and heart of Esperanza Viva.

I am still with the Medianas dorm but we have added another little one! Her name is Alexa and she is 6 years old. She has such a kind and sweet heart and the girls have done such an amazing job welcoming her into the Medianas dorm life. Please pray for comfort, guidance and healing hearts with her transition along with her brother as they no longer are living with their parents.

With all the constant changes, your prayers and words of encouragement mean the world to me. Please continue to pray for safety, good health patience and constant growth throughout all these changes. Seven months of me being here, I can easily say that I am not the same person as I was a year ago. It is absolutely amazing how God walks each and every step with us. He puts us exactly where we are supposed to be to use those gifts that He has given us. To create not just the big moments but the little moments in lives of others.
